Minéraux du mont Saint-Hilaire, un patrimoine exceptionnel - Soft cover version

Collection Arkane is fortunate to have the opportunity to offer the book written by Gilles Haineault and edited by Patrimoine hilairemontais at the end of 2014.  With close to 200 photographs, this book is a must for collectors of minerals from the Poudrette Quarry at Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Quebec Province, Canada.  The minerals and gems displayed in this book are mostly from the unique Gilles Haineault collection.  A section of the book is dedicated to the geology, history, collectors, and geologic setting where minerals of interest to collectors have been found.

This book has been published in French but the texts are easily understandable to most people familiar with minerals.  A very brief summary of its key content (and not a translation) follows:

  • About the author: an autodidact mineralogist who collected at the Poudrette Quarry from 1982 to 2008 and discovered 10 new mineral species out of the more than 60 new species currently known at this locality.
  • Word from the author: a hundred mineral species, out of the more than 400 known, are presented in this book; and thanks to the Poudrette family for allowing mineral collecting at their quarry.
  • Topography, geology and history: an exceptional locality for the number of mineral species discovered in a surface area of only 400 metres by 600 metres.
  • Other important mineralogists and collectors active at this site (in alphabetical order of last name): Rolland Bouhelier, Jacques Bradley, George Y. Chao, Laszlo Horváth, Guy Perrault, Elsy Pfenninger-Horváth, Peter Tarsassoff.
  • Minerals: exceptional and representative specimens, microcrystals, new minerals, pseudomorphs, fluorescent and phosphorescent minerals, gems.

The book is available in soft cover and hard cover versions.  A large part of the purchase price of the soft cover version goes to the non-profit organization Patrimoine hilairemontais.  The hard cover version has been produced by Gilles Haineault in a limited quantity.
